Can parents be included in the photos?

The cake smash setup is designed specifically for your baby, so there typically isn't enough room for adults on the birthday set itself. However, many families choose to add on a family mini session before the cake smash. Family portraits are photographed on a simple solid-colored backdrop and include 5 high-resolution digital images.

What if my child has food allergies or I don't want them to have sugar?

No problem! We can accommodate many dietary needs, including vegan and egg-free cakes. Since eggs are one of the most common food allergies in babies, this is a request we receive often. If you'd prefer to avoid cake altogether, there are plenty of fun alternatives. Over the years, I've photographed everything from donuts and pancakes to watermelon, fruit, and spaghetti. What if my child doesn't cooperate?

Don't worry - we've seen it all! Most babies need a little time to warm up, and we have plenty of tricks to encourage participation. Sometimes we'll hide favorite snacks behind the cake, offer a wooden spoon to explore, introduce new props, or add toys during the bath portion of the session. The entire experience is designed to keep babies engaged and having fun.

How can I help my baby have a successful session?

A few simple things can make a big difference:

• Keep your baby on their normal feeding and nap schedule.

• Make sure they've had opportunities to explore and self-feed different foods and textures at home.

• Avoid scheduling the session a day or two after vaccinations.

• If your baby is sick or even just a little under the weather, please reschedule. Happy, well-rested babies almost always have the best experience.

Do we need to bring anything?

Nope, just a cute baby! Oh, and the usual essentials (diapers, wipes, snacks, and milk or water.) We provide the decorations, use of a coordinating outfit that you can choose, and a custom designer cake. One tip: I usually recommend leaving favorite toys at home. While parents often think they'll help, they typically become a distraction and can make it harder to keep your baby's attention focused on the session.

When should I book my cake smash session?

If you plan to use the photos for birthday invitations, party decorations, or printed displays, I recommend scheduling your session at least three weeks before you need the finished images. Galleries are delivered within two weeks, and this gives you additional time for printing. If you aren't planning a party, any time around your baby's first birthday is perfect.

How do we decide on a theme?

This is one of the most fun parts of the planning process! Some families prefer a simple, timeless setup, while others love a fully themed celebration.

How long does a cake smash session take?

Most sessions last between 45 minutes and one hour. We spend time at the beginning helping your baby get comfortable in the studio and warmed up to the environment. Some babies are ready immediately, while others need a little extra time, so the exact length varies from child to child.
