Your Baby’s Safety Comes First

Every pose is approached with your baby's safety in mind. Newborns are carefully supported and monitored throughout the session, and given time to settle naturally between poses. Beautiful portraits are important, but your baby's well-being always comes first. Learn more about my approach to newborn photography safety.

How It Works

From your first inquiry to final gallery delivery.

01

Inquire & Reserve Your Session

Reach out anytime during pregnancy to learn more about the newborn experience, pricing, and availability. I'll answer any questions you have so you can feel confident you're choosing the right photographer for your family. Once you're ready, we'll reserve space around your due date and finalize the session details once baby arrives.

02

Personalize Your Session

Once your contract and retainer are complete, then we tackle the hardest part of the whole process… waiting for baby to arrive. After your little one arrives, we'll choose the best date for your session and I'll send over a questionnaire so I can learn about your preferences and begin planning the details of your session.

03

Get to the Studio

Once the big day arrives, all you need to do is get everyone dressed and make your way to the studio. Everything for baby is provided, so the only things you'll need to bring are the essentials you would normally pack when leaving the house, such as bottles, diapers, and a pacifier if your baby uses one.

04

Relax & Enjoy

Once you're settled in, it's time to simply enjoy the experience. I'll handle the flow of the session, guide you through family portraits, and create baby's images while you sit back and relax. Many parents are surprised by how little they actually have to do, and how much they enjoy watching it all come together.

05

Receive Your Gallery

Within two short weeks, you'll receive your beautiful online gallery. You'll be able to share the gallery with family and friends and download your high-resolution digital files right away. If you'd love to see your images in an album, frame, or birth announcement, professional-quality products are available, but there's never any pressure to purchase anything beyond what's already included.

Kind Words From Austin Families

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We loved working with Jessica for our newborn photos. With newborns being unpredictable, she was flexible and went with the flow (spitups, accidents, feeding!) and ended up getting incredible shots that we will cherish.

I can't recommend Jessica enough! As a first-time mom, I was understandably nervous about the whole process, but she made everything so easy and reassuring. Our newborn was calm and content the entire time. My husband even got a peaceful two-hour nap during the session!

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the questions parents ask most often before booking a newborn session. If you don't see your question here, feel free to reach out - I'm always happy to help.

When should I book my newborn session?

Most families book during their second or third trimester to ensure availability. That said, if your baby is already here, don't panic! I keep my schedule as flexible as possible and can often accommodate last-minute newborn sessions. For a more detailed breakdown, read my guide on When to Book Your Newborn Photography Session.

How old should my baby be for newborn photos?

The traditional newborn photography window is within the first two weeks after birth, but my personal sweet spot is often between 2–3 weeks old. Babies are still wonderfully sleepy and flexible, while parents have usually had a little more time to settle in at home. If your baby is already 3–4 weeks old, don't worry… beautiful newborn portraits are still absolutely possible.

What if my baby won’t sleep?

This is one of the most common concerns I hear from new parents. The good news is that you don't need to stress about it. With over a decade of experience photographing newborns, I've learned how to read baby's cues, create a calm environment, and help little ones settle naturally throughout the session. Even babies who "never sleep" often surprise their parents. You can read more about my approach in Do Babies Need to Sleep For Newborn Photos?

Are newborn sessions safe?

Absolutely. Your baby's comfort and safety are always my top priority. Sessions are completely baby-led, which means babies are never forced into poses they aren't comfortable with. Every pose, transition, and setup is approached with care, patience, and years of newborn-specific experience.

What Should parents wear?

Simple, comfortable clothing in soft, neutral tones photographs beautifully and keeps the focus on your connection with your baby. Don't worry about putting together the perfect outfit - I can provide guidance before your session. You can also find outfit ideas and examples in What to Wear for Newborn Photos.

What should siblings wear?

Just like parents, siblings photograph best in simple, comfortable clothing without large logos, graphics, or distracting patterns. Coordinating colors tend to work better than matching exactly. For examples and outfit inspiration, check out What Should Siblings Wear for Newborn Photos?

Do I need to bring anything?

Not much! Everything needed for baby's portraits is provided. All you'll need to bring are the everyday essentials you would normally pack when leaving the house, such as diapers, bottles, extra milk or formula, and a pacifier if your baby uses one. My goal is to make the experience as easy and stress-free as possible.

How long does a newborn session take?

Session length varies depending on the collection you choose and, of course, baby. Most newborn sessions last between 1–3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and cuddles when needed. I never rush babies, which helps keep the experience calm and relaxed for everyone.

Do you provide wraps and props?

Yes! My studio is stocked with a carefully curated collection of wraps, outfits, bonnets, headbands, hats, blankets, and props. Everyday newborn clothing often appears oversized in photos and can hide many of the sweet newborn details parents love. You're also welcome to bring a sentimental item if you'd like it incorporated into your session.

What if my baby arrives early or late?

Not a problem at all. Newborns rarely follow the schedule we had in mind. I reserve space around your due date rather than a specific session date, which allows me to adjust once baby arrives. Whether your little one decides to make an early entrance or keep everyone waiting a little longer, we'll find the best time for your session.

Can I see more examples of a full newborn gallery?

Take a look at A Relaxed Newborn Session with Parents (And What You Can Expect) to see a real newborn session from start to finish, including family photos, baby-only portraits, and exactly what the experience looks like from the moment a family arrives at the studio until they head home.

Whether you're still researching photographers or you're ready to reserve your session, I hope this page helped you feel more confident about what to expect. If you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.
