If you’re considering newborn photography mentoring, you’re probably wondering what a session actually looks like. From posing and safety to workflow and editing, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what you can expect when you book a mentoring session with me in Austin.
WHAT A FULL DAY MENTORING SESSION LOOKS LIKE
A full day mentoring session is completely hands-on from start to finish. Whether you’re brand new to newborn photography or you’ve been doing this for a while and want to refine your posing and lighting, everything is tailored to where you are.
You’ll be working with real newborn models while I guide you through posing, lighting, and how to safely adjust each setup in real time. If you’re just getting started, we’ll focus on building a strong foundation with simple, safe poses, understanding light, and wrapping, etc. If you’re more experienced, we’ll fine-tune the details that elevate your work, like subtle posing adjustments, flow, and consistency. We’ll move through a full session workflow together, including transitions between poses, reading baby cues, and keeping things calm and efficient.
We’ll also take a break to go through your images, talk through what’s working, and make adjustments so you leave with more confidence, not just more information.
Every session is customized to what you want to focus on, whether that’s posing, lighting, workflow, or the business side of things. You’ll also be invited to a private Facebook group for continued support after your session.

This session is a relaxed, observation-style experience where you get to sit in on a real newborn session and see exactly how everything works behind the scenes.
You’ll watch how I move through my full workflow from soothing and posing to lighting, transitions, and handling real-life moments like feedings or disruptions. It’s a great option if you’re just getting started, feeling a little unsure, or simply want to observe before booking a more hands-on mentoring experience.
You’re welcome to ask questions throughout the session, whether it’s about posing, lighting, workflow, or how I handle different situations as they come up.

“Jessica is not only an incredible photographer but an amazing mentor as well. She graciously opened her studio, and her knowledge, to help me grow my skills. This is something you just don’t find very often amongst fellow photographers. She’s truly so genuine about wanting to help you grow and has no judgement or negativity regarding where you’re currently at with your skills or what gear you are using. I can’t wait to do more mentoring sessions with her! I highly recommend her not only as a photographer but as a mentor.”

“I worked with Jessica Doffing Photography as a intern when I was attending the Art Institute of Austin (photography major🙋♀️). She was an open book and she pointed out and explained every step she did. I shot along side her and she reviewed every shot to make sure I captured the right angles. She covered everything from posing, styling, lighting, parent prep, editing, sales, marketing and more. She helped me so much to develop the skill set and confidence I was lacking to expand my knowledge and business in that direction. I wanted to include more newborn photography in my repertoire, which she definitely achieved in doing. Jessica is fun, driven and definitely knows her stuff. I got to know quite well when I interned with her and I found her to be very friendly, professional and approachable and I now feel privileged to be able to call her my friend. She gives 100% of herself and I will be forever grateful for all of her expertise and knowledge she has shared with me. Two thumbs up from me!!”

“I am a new newborn photographer and had the pleasure of spending the day with Jessica doing 3 sessions. She was gracious and kind, offering lots of tips and tricks as well as information about how she has built her business. It was a huge help to see how she handles her sessions, and seeing the beautiful images she was able to create was a huge inspiration to me. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a mentor!”
